Emergency Dentist in Vancouver
Same-Day Emergency Dental Care in South Vancouver
A toothache that won’t let you sleep. A cracked tooth from something you bit into. Swelling that came up overnight. Dental emergencies never happen at a convenient time, and waiting usually makes them worse.
At Cambie Marine Gateway Dental, we do our best to see emergency patients the same day they call. Our clinic is easy to reach from anywhere in South Vancouver, Marpole, Oakridge, and Richmond, so you can get relief without a long trip while you’re in pain.
If you’re hurting right now, call 604-620-1887. Tell our front desk it’s an emergency and we’ll find you the earliest available time.

Dental Emergencies We Treat
Severe Toothache
Persistent or throbbing pain usually means a deep cavity, an infection, or a cracked tooth. Over-the-counter pain relief can take the edge off, but it won't fix the cause. We find the source of the pain, treat it, and get you comfortable as quickly as possible.
Chipped, Cracked or Broken Tooth
A broken tooth can expose the nerve and leave sharp edges that cut your tongue or cheek. Depending on the damage, we can repair it with a composite filling, a crown, or, if the nerve is involved, root canal therapy.
Knocked-Out Tooth
A knocked-out adult tooth has the best chance of being saved if it's re-implanted within about an hour. Hold it by the crown, not the root, rinse gently if it's dirty, and keep it in milk or inside your cheek until you reach us. Call on your way in.
Lost Filling or Crown
A lost restoration leaves the tooth exposed and sensitive. Keep the crown if you still have it. We can often re-cement it or place a temporary the same day to protect the tooth until a permanent repair is done.
Dental Abscess, Swelling or Infection
Facial swelling, a pimple-like bump on the gum, a bad taste in your mouth, or fever are signs of infection. Dental infections don't clear up on their own and can spread. We drain the infection, treat the source, and prescribe antibiotics when needed.
Wisdom Tooth Pain
Pain, swelling, or trouble opening your mouth at the back of the jaw often points to an impacted or infected wisdom tooth. Our on-site CBCT scanner gives us a full 3D view so we can plan treatment right away.
Bleeding Gums or Injured Soft Tissue
Cuts to the lips, tongue, or gums that keep bleeding after 10 to 15 minutes of pressure need attention. Apply clean gauze, use a cold compress, and call us.
Broken Braces, Retainers or Dentures
A broken wire or cracked denture can cause sores and make eating difficult. Cover sharp edges with orthodontic wax and bring the appliance with you.
What to Do Before You Reach Us
- Toothache: Rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to remove trapped food, and take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed. Never place aspirin directly on the gum.
- Knocked-out tooth: Handle by the crown only. Keep it moist in milk or saliva. Don't scrub it.
- Broken tooth: Save any pieces, rinse your mouth, and hold a cold compress on your cheek for swelling.
- Lost crown: Keep it clean and dry. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can hold it in place for a short time.
- Swelling: Cold compress on the outside of the face, 15 minutes on, 15 off. Don't apply heat.
- Bleeding: Firm pressure with clean gauze for 10 to 15 minutes.
Then call 604-620-1887.
Is It a Dental Emergency or an Emergency Room Visit?
Most dental emergencies are best handled by a dentist. Hospital emergency departments can manage pain and infection but can't repair a tooth.
Call us for: toothache, broken or knocked-out teeth, lost fillings or crowns, abscesses, wisdom tooth pain, broken appliances.
Go to the emergency room or call 911 for: a suspected broken jaw, bleeding that won't stop, swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, or a head injury along with dental trauma.
Not sure which applies? Call us and we'll help you decide.
What to Expect at Your Emergency Visit
- Quick check-in. Tell our team what's happening and we'll prioritize your visit.
- Focused exam and imaging. Digital x-rays or a CBCT scan pinpoint the problem fast.
- Pain relief first. Getting you comfortable comes before anything else.
- Clear options. We explain what we found, what can be done today, what may need a follow-up, and what it costs, before any treatment starts.
- Aftercare. You leave with instructions and a plan, not questions.
Emergency Dental Care FAQs
Can I get a same-day emergency dental appointment in Vancouver?
We do our best to see emergency patients the same day. Call 604-620-1887 as early as you can and we'll fit you in at the first available time.
Do you see emergency patients who aren't existing patients?
Yes. New patients are welcome for emergency care. Bring your ID and insurance information if you have it.
How much does an emergency dental visit cost?
It depends on what's needed. An emergency exam and x-ray is the starting point, and any treatment is quoted before we begin. Insurance and CDCP often cover part or all of urgent care.
What should I do if my tooth gets knocked out?
Pick it up by the crown, rinse it gently if it's dirty, place it back in the socket if you can or keep it in milk, and get to us within an hour for the best chance of saving it.
Is a toothache an emergency?
A mild ache can usually wait a day or two. Pain that's severe, keeps you awake, or comes with swelling, fever, or a bad taste should be seen the same day.
Can I go to the ER for a toothache?
An emergency room can manage pain and prescribe antibiotics but can't treat the tooth itself. For most dental problems, a dentist is the faster and more complete option.
Will I need a root canal or an extraction?
Not always. Many emergencies are handled with a filling, crown, or medication. If the nerve is infected, root canal therapy usually saves the tooth. We'll walk you through every option before you decide.
In Pain? Don't Wait.
